Each Page is a Clue

This week chapters started in a secret agency that was investigating Matt because they new that he was searching what was Ravens gate. Then the story goes to Mrs.Deverill farm were Mr.Mallory, the agent that send Matt to this farm, arrived to visit Matt. The agent told Matt that he was going to take Matt out of that farm but before taking Matt with him, he died on his return to London. The next night Mrs.Deverill went to a meeting, Matt followed her and he active an alarm that alert 2 dogs. Matt run for his live into the woods and he felt in a bog. For his luck a journalist help him out of the bog and he killed the dogs.

"With a sinking feeling, Matt got up and went over to the telephone. He lifted the receiver. "Hello?" he said. "Matthew - is that you?"

Matt recognized the voice instantly and felt a shiver work its way down his spine. He knew it was impossible. It had to be some sort of trick. It was Tom Burguess"(Horowitz 112-113)

When I read this quote for the first time I got a feeling that it wasn´t true that Tom was alive. I think Mrs.Deverill plan this call to make Matt feel better and make him think that what he saw wasn´t true. I don't know if Matt is going to see Tom Burgess again in any part of the story because I think Tom is not alive, instead is a trick. I think I have all ready read something like this on another similar book but the person that revives is imagination.

"All his instincts screamed at him to slip away before he was spotted. But at the same time he knew that what he was seeing was important. He just had to work out what they were doing."(Horowitz 140-141)

When I read this quote I compared to my life. I`ve had this instinct lots of times in my life and not all of the times I had followed it. When I read the quote I knew that Matt will not follow his instinct and he will do the bad choice as almost every one. If I would have that choice of investigating I will follow my instinct and not getting into trouble.

As I read the book, it  keeps getting better and better and it continues surprising me. It is clear that all surprises of the book are not done yet and that every thing could happened. The author had add clues on different parts of the story, to create suspense that makes you wonder what would happened next and make you keep reading. I really like the fact that the excitement never stops and it continues entertaining you.  I am really loving this book and I cant wait to see what will happened with the journalist and the secret agency.

Excitement Begins

This chapters have had lots of suspense, it all begin when Matt had returned to Mrs.Deverill´s farm were he felt asleep and he had a nightmare. Mrs.Deverill wasn't on the farm when he awoke so Matt try to scape but he couldn't because the roads change and make Matt return to the same place where he started every time he went trough them. The next day Matt went to the forest and got lost but he run into Tom Burgess, the man that had warned him, he gave Matt a necklace and told him that he wouldn't get lost if he wear it all the time. Tom invited Matt to go to his house the next morning but when Matt went the next morning he found Tom death in his house, Matt found  "Ravens Gate" written on Toms bedroom´s wall. Matt got out of the house as soon as he could and he told the police what had happened but when the police went into Tom´s house the body and the evidence was clean up.

"The farmer was laying on the floor on the other side of the bed, partly covered by a sheet. He was obviously dead. Something-some sort of animal- had torn into his face and neck. There were hideous red gashes in the skin and his fair hair was matted with blood. His eyes were bulging, out of focus,  and his mouth was forced open in a last attempt of scream. His hands were stiff and twisted in a frantic attempt to ward something off."

(Horowitz 89)

After reading this I got shocked and I though who could do this to Tom and why? I don't think an animal do all these things to Tom, maybe there were more than one animal or a person was with the animal. I don't know what things Tom would have done to deserve this, but I believe he had made a bad thing. If I will see something like that I woudn´t know how I will react but I will probably run as far away as I could and never come back because of the fear.

"He relax. "It´s all right," he said. "It´s only the cat. It must have followed me here."
But the farmer´s face had gone white. All at once he had snapped the barrel of his shut gun and raised the whole thing to his shoulder. Before Matt could stop him, he pulled the trigger. There was an explosion. The cat had no chance." (Horowitz 80)

Why would he do that? I got surprise when the cat´s presence made Tom paled and kill the animal. Maybe on the pass Tom made a terrible thing to Mrs.Deverill or the cat so he would be that afraid. If I will be watching that at that moment  I will probably be really surprised and I will have loots of doubts.

I am loving this book because of the fact that it makes you not stop reading. All the suspense and the fear that the author add are pretty precise and that's why I don`t want  to stop reading. I will say that this book is a page turner because it always start and ends the chapters so intensely that you want to go on and on with the story. I´m so exited to see what will come up on the next chapters. I don't know what exact magic does Yorkshire has, but I found it strange that a necklace could suspended it. I think that when Matt go back to Mrs.Deverill´s house he would be punished and he will scape to found out more about Ravens Gate.

The First Surprises

For summer I am reading the book Ravens Gate, a story that starts on Ipswich, England, with Matt, a thirteen old boy with no parents. He was going with a very good friend of his, named Kelvin, to rob a electronic store. In the store Kelvin stab a guard on his side and told the police that was Matt the one who did it. The police took Matt to London were he was told that he was going to live with  Jayne Deverill, his new legal guardian. Mrs. Deverill took Matt to his house on Yorkshire where Matt was very frustrated because it was a farm with nothing electronic. After a week of living on the Mrs.Deverill`s farm Jayne ask Matt to go to a village near the farm to get a package for her. In the village he meet a big and strong man who warned him not to be near that village.

"The coach was late. I would have called you from the station, but I`m afraid I don't carry a phone. we`re not up-to-date in the Yorkshire countryside as you are down here in London. In fact, there´s no sign were I live so a mobile telephone would be something of a waste of time."
(Horowitz 32)

Really? I don't know how Matt is going to survive a hole year on such a place that it doesn't have phone signal. If I were Matt I will suffer a lot all the 365 days at Mrs.Deverill`s farm. The place where Matt is going, is very different from what he is used to. I think Matt is going to suffer a lot but is part of his punishment.

"Listen to me, Matthew Freeman," the man said suddenly. "You don't want to be hanging around this village. you don't want to be anywhere  near here. Do you understand me? I shouldn't be talking to you like this. But if you know what is good for you, you'll get away. You`ll go as far away as you can and you won`t come back. Do you hear me? you need to..."
(Horowitz 58)

I find strange that suddenly a unknown man warned you on such a way that would even scared you and then only pause suddenly. I don't know what Matt`s feelings were but I think that Matt was really scared. If a strange men would told me that, I will run away and follow his warning without a doubt. I don't know what make the men react in such way but I don't think is something good.

I really enjoy reading this first chapters from this novel, they had lots of suspense and I really like it. This novel is a very good one, which hooks you on the story and make it difficult to stop reading. By reading how the book ends I don't know what will come next because the men`s warning left the book with a very big suspense. Maybe Matt will follow the advice but, what if he decides to learn more about what is happening and he stays? If Matt decide to scape he would make a good for him because he would follow the men`s warning and he will prevent any danger.
